Everything You Need to Know About our Fiber Project
WHAT IS CORN BELT TELEPHONE FIBER?
CBT Fiber is an exciting new project to bring FTTH technology to homes and businesses in Sac City. FTTH technology will provide fast, reliable Internet Speeds, Voice Services and Cable TV to the communities of Sac City, Lytton and Early, just like our existing FTTH networks in Wall Lake and Lake View. During the construction phase, CBT will be burying Fiber Optic lines and building an underground network to deliver these services using light instead of electricity.
WHAT DOES FIBER TO THE HOME (FTTH) MEAN?
FTTH is the data delivery system that brings Fiber Optic cables all the way to the home or business. Just like its older siblings, Coax and Copper Wire, FTTH will deliver Phone, Cable TV and Internet Services to your home, only faster and more reliably.
HOW WILL A FIBER CONNECTION BENEFIT ME?
A Fiber Optic connection will supply you with a high speed, high capacity system that enables you to get a better experience streaming, gaming, uploading and so much more! Fiber is also undeniably reliable and stable. It can even increase the value of a home and make it more desirable to renters.
WHAT IS FIBER AND WHY IS IT BETTER THAN WHAT I HAVE?
Fiber is a newer, faster, more reliable and expandable method of data signal transport. Unlike copper, Fiber Optic lines can carry data further and faster without signal loss or interference.
WHY DO I FILL OUT A SERVICE APP SO EARLY?
Corn Belt Telephone’s plan is to build our new Fiber Optic network as efficiently as possible in order to begin providing services as soon as possible. Filling out your Service Application now lets us know who is interested in services and allows us to gather required information from these parties. Don’t worry, the information we collect will not be shared with other companies and since there are no contracts, you can cancel at any time. You can get a Service Application here, OR you can fill out the app here on our website.
WILL I BE CHARGED FOR THE INSTALLATION OF FIBER OPTICS TO MY HOME OR BUSINESS?
If you want Corn Belt Service, complete a Service Application and we are able to bring Fiber to your home or business during our construction process, you will not be charged for Fiber installation. However, if you do not complete an app and decide later that you want Fiber after crews have left your area, there will be an installation charge.
WILL THE PROCESS OF BURYING FIBER DISTURB MY YARD OR PROPERTY?
We do our best to minimize any disturbance to your property and we will restore any disturbance as close to its original state as possible.
WHAT EQUIPMENT WILL BE INSTALLED ON MY HOME OR BUSINESS?
Corn Belt Telephone will install a Network Interface Device (NID) on the outside of your home or business, a Fiber Jack and an Optical Network Terminal (ONT). The ONT housing contains our equipment that will convert the Fiber Optic data signals into usable Internet/Cable TV/Telephone signals for your home or business.
WHAT SERVICES ARE AVAILABLE TO HOMES AND BUSINESSES?
Corn Belt Telephone will be offering Phone Service, our Silver Cable TV lineup and Gig Capable Internet once our Fiber Network is built.
DO I HAVE TO SUBSCRIBE TO ALL OF CORN BELT TELEPHONE’S SERVICES?
You can choose one or all of Corn Belt Telephone’s services! Ask about our Fiber Bundle, which can get you a higher internet speed for our starter internet price!
IF I SWITCH MY TELEPHONE SERVICE TO CORN BELT TELEPHONE, CAN I KEEP MY PHONE NUMBER?
Yes! We will be able to “port” or move your existing Sac City or Lytton phone number to our service.
HOW DO I SIGN UP FOR THE SERVICES THAT I WANT?
There is a Residential or Business Service Application to complete. The applications are available on our website, here for residential, here for business, or you can stop by our office at 108 Main St. Wall Lake, or even call us at 712-664-2221 in Wall Lake or 712-662-5998 in Sac City and we’d be happy to mail or email you one. Once your application is filled out and returned, and a $50 per service refundable deposit is paid, we will get you set up with the activation of services.
I WANT INTERNET. WHAT ABOUT A ROUTER?
If you want wireless access within your home or business, rather than a wired connection, you’ll definitely want a router. You can provide your own router from a retailer of your choice, just make sure it is NOT a modem. You can purchase a router directly from us, or you can rent a router from us for a small monthly charge. Learn more about our Internet Service here.
I WANT CABLE TV. DO YOU CHARGE ME EXTRA FOR EVERY ROOM I HAVE IT IN?
No! The great thing about Corn Belt Telephone Cable TV is that you can have it in as many rooms as you’d like and your price is still the same. Learn more about our Cable TV here.
