Our roots run deep

About Us

Since 1961, we’ve helped Iowans stay connected — first with telephone only, then with a variety of communications services. Today our offerings include high speed internet (via fiber optics or Wireless 3.65), local and long distance telephone services, cable TV, security cameras, and local advertising. Corn Belt Telephone proudly serves these Iowa communities with services that vary by location: Auburn, Carnarvon, Early, Lake View, Lytton, Northern Carroll County, Rural Sac, Sac City, Templeton, Wall Lake, and Western Calhoun County. We look forward to serving you!

History

Corn Belt Telephone was created in 1961 from the union of Wall Lake Switching, Wall Lake Telephone, and 16 other rural lines. It’s a member of the Iowa Communications Alliance, a group of more than 130 community-based telecommunications providers who offer broadband, telephone, and digital television service to rural Iowans. Corn Belt Telephone led the charge in Wall Lake to bring our community better telecommunications and fast, reliable internet connections.

Corn Belt Telephone joined forces with Iowa Network Services (INS) —  an assembly of 127 independent telecommunications companies in Iowa — which paved the way to bring internet services to Wall Lake in 1995 and connect our communities to long distance carriers and statewide fiber-optic voice and data networks. In 1999, we purchased Cable Television from the City of Wall Lake to create the trifecta of telephone, internet, and cable TV services our customers have come to love.

In 2005, Corn Belt Telephone formed a CLEC (Competitive Local Exchange Carrier) known as Corn Belt Communications that serves the City of Lake View, Iowa. Corn Belt Communications originally offered only cable TV services. However, our Fiber to the Home (FTTH) project, which began in 2008, aimed to change that! Upon its completion, services in Lake View grew to include internet and phone as well.

We continued our FTTH project in rural Wall Lake in 2010 to bring all of our services to our neighbors in the outlaying country areas of town. Today, we also provide wireless internet services in rural areas of Auburn, Lake View, and Sac City. In 2020, we continued FTTH expansion to eventually include Sac City, Lytton, and Early.

As the communications industry continues to evolve, you can count on Corn Belt Telephone and Corn Belt Communications to keep you connected to what matters most.
