Self-Troubleshooting for Internet Issues

If your CBT internet isn’t working correctly, try these tips and resources.

If your fiber internet isn’t working:

Check the battery backup to make sure it’s plugged in

If that has power, unplug your router and leave it unplugged for 10 to 20 seconds. Plug it back in and see if your internet comes back on. You may have to do this more than once, and you may have to restart your computer/laptop/phone/tablet or other connected devices. If you’re constantly having to unplug your router, it may be time for a new one.

If your Wireless 3.65 internet isn’t working:

Unplug your router from the electrical outlet, then unplug your power supply from the electrical outlet. Wait 10 to 20 seconds and plug both back in.

If your internet is running very slow:

Count how many devices you have running that are pulling bandwidth.  The more devices you have running, the slower your internet speed will be. Smartphones, laptops, tablets, streaming devices, smart TV’s, virtual assistants, smart home thermostats, Wi-Fi printers, gaming consoles and other connected devices all pull bandwidth — some even when they’re in “rest mode.” We request  you do a speed test to determine what speed is coming into your home. To get a true account of your speed, make sure all your devices are shut off except the computer you’re using to perform the test. Go to www.speedtest.net and record the download and upload speeds it gives you. This will aid in troubleshooting.

If you’re a just-returning seasonal customer:

Check to make sure your battery backup is plugged in when you return. Many seasonal customers unplug their battery when they close down their home for the season. If you don’t plug it back in when you return, our services will not work, since they’re all  powered through the battery backup.
